I have a HW COM 1 on my laptop-cannot program Pro Mini clone
hello all,
i'm totally new arduino.
got pro mini clone , cannot upload sketch on them. blink once feeded 5v.
1. have hardware com on laptop(a real one, db9), wired
pin 2 (rxd) -> tx on pro mini
pin 3 (txd) -> rx on pro mini
q: is enough?
2. kind of programmer choose? kinda tried them - default avrisp mkii,
binary sketch size: 1,076 bytes (of 30,720 byte maximum)
avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x30
and no change in blinking - sketch supposed do.
q: problem here?
3. serial monitor echoes type, long have board hooked pc.
(echoes me whether hook res gnd , short tx rx - or none of these)
echo not appear if disconnect serial cable.
q: is ok?
4. tools menu opens very slow, maybe 10 seconds clicking it, other menu ok. use arduino 1.0.5-r2
i can open serial monitor using keyboard, takes 3-4 seconds.
q: is ok?
maybe asked many question in 1 post, not realizing i'm doing wrong.
thank in advance

1. no
2. use cheap usbasp ebay, not reliable, or use "arduino isp".
3. don't know. have fix rest first.
4. no
the arduino ide should run without delays. have (parts of) old java or old arduino ide on computer ?
keep folder projects, , remove else. remove arduino ide , of java.
download arduino ide zip file , unpack in folder. running okay ? if still not okay, try new arduino ide 1.5.7 beta, has many of these problems fixed.
the 'real' rs-232 port on computer can have voltage levels -15...+15v. damage arduino pro mini, because needs ttl-level rx , tx signals. on laptops, voltages lower, don't know how arduino pro mini damaged. however, should buy one.
you need translate rs-232 high voltages ttl level. example max232 or max2323. search ebay modules that. or search ebay : rs232 ttl
or buy usb-to-serial-ttl converter, can use usb port. need converter compatible 5v , dtr signal.
to upload sketch, arduino board reset. reset starts bootloader check serial port incoming data. reset done dtr signal. need connect dtr 100nf reset of arduino.
