Thread: Japanese keyboard: Ubuntu can't handle all 109 keys?

i have japanese 109 key version of microsoft comfort curve 2000 usb keyboard
  • keyboard has worked fine in vista , fedora 10 (with tinkering)
  • with 9.04 best can (ie, using 106 layout) has ] key types /
    • this consistent using visualizer "onboard", ] key missing (makes sense, thinks there's 106 keys)
    • there other problems too, such }
    • they aren't dead keys, they're mismapped
i installed 9.04 using standard qwerty ps2 keyboard, added usb keyboard afterwards. note, want , us-en locale, keyboard's meta keys (at times type in japanese). type ] memory using qwerty layout, love gnome applet that

more info:
  • system > preferences > keyboard > layouts > keyboard model -- here can select "microsoft comfort curve keyboard 2000" .. no mention of 109 key japanese version
  • same place, under "generic" make, see 106 key japanese, not 109 key

==> there way use 109 keys in ubuntu?

if have more time, things i'm considering try are:
  • sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup
  • ripping required files fedora rpm somewhere
  • manually adding own layout, etc...

reading

edit: fixed

generic japanese 106 works now. don't know happened--perhaps window focus options made unclear window had layout. (slash / appears unassigned keys when layout chosen)
