Thread: Upgrading Gutsy laptop

i have toshiba laptop running gutsy. came attention gutsy has been declared end-of-life when had trouble getting latest version of openoffice because version have won't open word files. (i guess makes me sound bit slow, doesn't it?)

openoffice not program on computer doesn't work right. that's why i've been trying upgrade ubuntu later version, 1 still has repositories. found article upgrading end-of-life distros i'll post link @ bottom of this, says change file /etc/apt/sources.list , then, while running kernel 2.6.22-14, call program called do-release-upgrade.

think have followed these instructions correctly; when call said program, following message:
code:
checking new ubuntu release current dist not found in meta-release file no new release found
i must admit i'm not entirely sure meta-release file is, seems current distro should there. appreciated.

i recommend fresh install...backup data/programs , fresh install of jaunty or karmic when released. if upgrade have go thru versions gutsy jaunty 1 one...a long process.
