±12v RS232 Serial adapter - Raspberry Pi Forums

ok, i've been getting lost in 1 while, , i'm sure shouldn't difficult find. basically, i'm trying attach pi device demands ±12v rs232 connection. i've tried cheap usb serial adapter, , turned out ttl levels. no go there. know put run off gpio pins appropriate parts (perhaps sparkfun rs232 shifter kit), i'll admit electronics knowledge weak, , soldering worse! additionally, approach require new case pi. however, if best way it, i'm willing try.
me, ideal solution simple usb rs232 ±12v adapter converter board in usb end of cable. why usb end of cable? because device has rj14 (6p4c) socket, , if it's way round, can replace db9 right plug remove need inline adapter cable. if knows can find such cable, i'd love hear of it. failing that, recommendations usb db9 rs232 adapter confirmed work pi and provides ±12v signal great help.
interested, i'm trying connect celestron nexstar slt handset. i've got pi camera , eyepiece working nicely, camera control running on ad-hoc wifi tablet/smartphone. far, everything's working nicely, next step in project controlling telescope mount same software. custom software, work in progress. setup assembled in dark, hence i'm trying minimize adapter cables.
suggestions , or/advice welcome!
in advance, p.

edit: after having submitted this, spotted link roddyjoff's post below, add 9-pin serial port raspberry pi in 10 minutes. looks promising, it's not entirely clear whether it's providing 5v or 12v output. more knowledgeable me able comment?

hi there,

i'm pretty sure want 1 of these:
http://www.dx.com/p/usb-to-rs232-adapte ... ngth-24799

, then, avoid soldering, want 1 of these:
http://www.dx.com/p/db9-female-to-rj45- ... pter-48128

can rj11 6p4c versions, or can cut 2 small pieces of plastic , glue them in place make rj45 socket narrower.

need telephone cable, rj11 6p4c plugs on each end , straight through wiring on 4 pins. can @ dollar store.

you'll end bunch of adapters, no soldering. configure rj45->db9 adapter pushing pins want backshell of db9. if snip unused wires off won't in way. you'll have trace out order want 4 pins telescope appear in, should easy.

pi -> usb extension -> usb serial -> db9 rj45 -> rj11 telephone cable -> telescope.

* yes, know it's de9. bite me.
