Bluetooth Serial Communication

hey! working on project wherein required connect cell phone arduino (atmega8) via bluetooth (hc-05) , transmit commands using serial terminal. need display connection status such "loading..." or "connecting user" on 16x2 lcd until device connects arduino *this i'm stuck*. can't figure out how determine whether connection has been established between cell phone , arduino.

you connected when led stops blinking. might find following background notes useful
