Thread: How to upgrade gnome-settings-daemon?
first, little background. i've been having problem on eee pc running unr 9.04 mute button produces crackling sound instead of turning off sound. issue seems documented around net. apparently proper way disable sound on these machines turn off ispeaker volume control. there scripts out there, integrate notification popups , work quite well. naturally want replace mute button functionality this.
however, have stumbled across bug in gnome: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=580616. can work around issue entering other key combination , switching mute button once it's working, on restart goes away , have again (even though it's still showing in keyboard shortcuts applet). believe patch provided fix issue , make work perfectly, since matches exact problem i've come across.
how version of gnome-settings-daemon fix? don't want install random .deb or make install, because want further patches , keep up-to-date on time goes on. i've added various ppas in past this, seems work ok, can't find 1 more up-to-date gnome-settings-daemons.
there way around this, or issue in general? know move 9.10 beta, don't want whole system unstable, 1 small component.
(my current gnome-settings-daemon 2.26.1-0ubuntu2)
thanks.
(as aside, if comes across post looking volume mute crackling issue fix - i've attached 2 scripts needed. eee-volume-mute.txt not text file wouldn't let me upload without changing extension - rid of .txt, make them executable, , point keyboard mute shortcut eee-volume-mute [make new custom 1 , disable current 1 pressing backspace]. didn't write these scripts, although did change notification text. think there's attribution in files themselves.)
anyone have idea?
