Thread: Is Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H mother board works good in Ubuntu?

i planning build htpc using following mb/processor. know how mb supported in ubuntu? main concern display drivers, ubuntu use gpu proprietary drivers or fall processor?

from have read in product reviews, mb works ubuntu karmic...i bought same bundle thinking about, i'm waiting memory ship, haven't assembled system yet. if didn't buy yours yet, there's cheaper deal might want @ here:

rating + 5 couldn't happier

pros: last board cheap-o f**con. had issues , ended regretting did not spend little quality board gigabyte. i've had success gigabyte, they've won me over.

board no exception. model had few nice things above of other boards (4 ram slots, firewire, esata on back, 3 video connectors). lots of solid caps , sturdy looking components. it's built tank 2oz copper printed circuit board. has 8-pin cpu connector. had 4-pin, plugged in , seems fine.

785g handles video nicely..heads , tails above intel g43 using.

cons: none report.

other thoughts: paired 620 propus athlon x4, it's pretty snappy build @ price. i'm running ubuntu 9.04. generic radeon driver worked, downloaded newest catalyst driver (9.9) , installed since proprietary driver ubuntu 9 uses doesn't support chipset. install *very* easy, chmod +x , execute. else seems work default, although haven't tried audio since have separate card.

pros: great onboard video, connections. great htpc board.

cons: price? none.

other thoughts: runs linux ubuntu 9.1 karmic koala beta champ amd regor 245 , ocz 1066 ram. tried ubuntu 9.04 found issue amd video driver leaving "unsupported hardware" watermark icon on lower left screen. tried alpha 6 , beta of karmic , works great. ext4 boots fast.
