How to type text on second line and so on - Raspberry Pi Forums

hi please excuse me i'm 42 yr old has got himself pi ( wicked piece of kit).
i'm set , running static ip in place . ssh enabled ( i'm not new networking , pc)
first project going make own vpn .
can use putty i'm old , type code again in dos days.
how put text onto second line.
every time hit enter instead of cursor going next line try's execute ?

using text editor or typing in "terminal window" on command-line?
