installed ubuntu independently on 2nd hard drive 1st xp hard drive disconnected.
ubuntu running fine, there display problems 2 monitor setup. attempted resolve these problems using display manager: identify monitors, turn off mirroring, etc. eventually, display manager cease respond, freezing. using system monitor, 1 cpu running full tilt @ 100%, go 0% resources being consumed, , switch on other cpu, registered 100% resources being consumed. had shut down , went through whole process again (and again...). same results.
per suggestions forum, @ boot, used xfix option repair graphics. horked things up. ubuntu start boot, display show weird, tiled screen across top of both displays, series of small images may have been ubuntu start or bios set up. couldn't tell. attempted recovery several times no avail.
okay, windows os intact being on separate drive, i'll start top , reinstall ubuntu on second hard drive. brought second drive down started, is, unallocated, removed partitions created ubuntu @ first load. attempted reinstall ubuntu dvd using boot dvd drive boot menu before.
grub 1.5 indicated startup, stop error 22.
guess assumptions wrong removing partitions, assuming os install prompt reestablish partition , install know install grub.
i'm @ complete loss how proceed.
don't want re-experience display problems got me mess in first place.
@ least still have windows xp running on first drive, i'm not ready slit wrists yet in frustration.
in advance assistance.
