Temperature Sensor and Wireless Notification - Raspberry Pi Forums

i'm looking gain general knowledge , appreciate advice. build temperature sensor refrigerated semi trailer. important parts ability set temperature threshold, , notify driver when outside threshold.
i've been doing googling basic understanding, notification piece i'm least sure. ideally able ping cell phone, i'm not sure how achieve this. bluetooth or private wifi network? , once connected, can send phone? need app on phone?
option if there sort of receiver inside truck communicating via rf. found project online close that, hoping hear opinions or experiences community.
