upgrade with new linux - Raspberry Pi Forums

last week see lot of posts about
beginner not should rpi-update , copy of "bleeding edge" statements in insulting way.

today setup new system , upgrade ( >200mb ) give me change from
raspbian release date: 2015-05-05
debian wheezy linux version 3.18.11-v7
after reboot
debian wheezy linux version 4.1.6-v7

in information stream here wrong!
news info should upgrade ( or not it??)
-- if info not here on site bad style
-- if here still last millennium style,
expect, when start rpi info pops up:
" new upgrade available incl. linux 4..."

or if experts know this, why not , pls not rpi-update, wait 1 week , apt-get upgrade.

general advice is: rpi-update if advised because of specific problem. should use apt-get update , apt-get upgrade latest stable software.

rpi-update pull in latest (so-called "bleeding-edge") versions of kernel , bootloader. these versions may fix problems or may not. may introduce new problems. once updates have been tested , found safe install, become available via apt-get.

if use apt-get upgrade linux kernel 4.1.6+ or 4.1.6-v7+
