Thread: Windows/System32/Config/System Missing or Corrupt


hi,

firstly, have lenovo t60 thinkpad laptop came preinstalled windows xp. 1 of courseworks in university, dual installed ubuntu 9.04 using wubi - windows installer. note: wubi windows installer ubuntu installed can uninstalled if not required normal windows applications. had laptop dual boot either windows xp or ubuntu 9.04. fine ubuntu , windows xp , dual boot option worked fine.

when tried start computer , chose windows xp option boot, on boot screen showed me following message:

windows/system32/config/system missing or corrupt

not boot windows xp anymore can boot ubuntu 9.04 choosing ubuntu boot option. using ubuntu in laptop access internet , type out message.

ubuntu operating system, able access c drive windows xp installed. can access c , d drive , hence access files in c , d drive windows xp installed in computer. have made full backup of entire c , d drive. prepared try new method solve problem have no fear of loss of data.

1) somehow possible repair missing or corrupt file without having reinstall , reformat entire windows xp installation again ?

2) possible repair corrupt file without loosing data stored in c drive using available access c drive through ubuntu 9.04?

3) options available me rectify problem ?

4) dont mind loosing or erasing ubuntu 9.04 os in attempt rectify windows boot problem have nothing important stored in ubuntu of , important data has been backed anyway. if ubuntu affected during repair procedure, doesn't matter reinstall ubuntu when computer or windows working.

5) possible somehow repair windows boot problem without loosing data stored in c drive ?

recovery cd supplied laptop allows me erase in hard drive, reformat , reinstall everything. no other option given recovery cd came lenovo thinkpad laptop. want try possible methods recover windows without deleting data , program files stored in computer. intending opt full erase, reofrmat , reinstall last option available. therefore seeking out other options available here me.

you should able copy new version of file on xp installation ubuntu using cd.

search cd file system , copy on path shown in error message.
