muxing/demuxing using 4067

dear list,

i have finished making touch sensitive keyboard, each of touch nodes output 5v logic touch them.

i need these signals sent module through cable, turn things on/off - rather using bulky 30 wire cable control signals need them, thought 4067 multiplex breakout sparkfun might come handy :: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9056

i understand mux chip can serve demultiplexer, dont quite understand how pack button states single datastream on keyboard side, , how unpack them on other.

would able use 4067 chip in reverse? or need arduino scan through inputs @ high speeds?
