Thread: The magical moving USB drive

i bought external usb drive nightly backups. i'm using rsnapshot backups, happen regularly. plugged in drive , did
code:
ls /dev/disk/by-uuid
which gave me uuid of usb drive. added fstab so:
code:
uuid=82cf91ff-7908-4725-8a08-f60c347af81e	/fsbackup	ext3	relatime,defaults	0	3
however, after long (i'm not sure how long) if try
code:
cd /fsbackup  ls
i input/output error. thought problem drive, real reason drive letter has changed? instance, boot computer first time, , usb drive /dev/sdb1, , df -h shows /dev/sdb1 mounted /fsbackup. i/o error, , remedy try:
code:
sudo mount -a
and can access files again, if df -h, shows not /dev/sdb1 mounted /fsbackup, /dev/sdc1. causing usb drive change letters, , why mounting uuid working, not staying permanent? why drive disconnecting , coming new letter? how can permanently mount usb drive? computer plugged being used server, rebooting i'd avoid.
