Arduino GRBL CNC Machine (Motor control help)
hello, new arduino forums hoping me out!
i starting project making small desktop cnc machine cheap can! have been doing bunch of research cnc machines, how work, how build them, ect. have found limited information of arduino cnc machines , needed them work.
okay, big thing trying figure out (especially before buy , realize doesn't work , waste money) these main electronics looking @ purchasing:
- arduino uno r3 (this own , have used)
- 3 nema 23 stepper motors (these own well, here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-nema-23-stepper-motors-cnc-mill-lathe-robot-reprap-taig-lathe-power-feed-4-/111450230976?pt=lh_defaultdomain_0&hash=item19f2f390c0 )
-arduino grbl cnc shield (as seen here http://blog.protoneer.co.nz/arduino-cnc-shield/ , here http://www.ebay.com/itm/261513306776)
- 3 stepstick drv8825 w/ heat sinks (for shield above.)
- 24v 5a switch power supply (here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/321463777053)
ftp://
now question is, of connected arduino (running grbl) enough run motors , give me working cnc machine? (once connected final product of course)
i've seen people mention buying tb6560 cnc, not cost around $40 unit (without power supply) require have pc old parallel port. components above (besides arduino , motors) cost me $35 includes power supply, , allows me use usb.
now open suggestions or criticism on should controlling , powering motors! need , make sure correct things in order make proper working cnc.
(edit: changed link the nema 23 motors, set own)

your link not list current drawn motors or resistance of motor coils.
my concern big motor require lot more current drv8825 can provide. if need more powerful (and more commercial, more expensive) drivers won't plug into grbl shield (assuming designed accept stepstick boards). suspect grbl work driver if figure out how connect up.
the power supply must comfortably able provide current motors require.
i haven't used grbl far know quite capable of driving cnc machine.
