Thread: Esata

dose ubuntu 9.04 support e-sata? if how need special set or ready go. having trouble setting raid 5. everytime try end lvm's , setting lamp server , think raid 5 work best this, right? if how can set raid 5? using taskel desktop edition of lamp set server, still need desktop computer.

are using hardware raid controller, software raid, or motherboard fakeraid?

software need alternate install disk if you're doing clean install, otherwise, google around mdadm how , can add array existing server.

unless you're dual booting windows, don't bother motherboard fakeraid, , software.

if it's real hardware controller, alternate install cd should have driver it.

haven't stated you're doing system, , hardware involved, can't if raid5 right or not. raid5's write performance pretty lousy, if plan on using database heavily written to, raid10 might better, lose more space. wouldn't raid5 if have lot of large disks. think around every 12-14tbs disk manufacturers expect bad sector occur, , if happens on parity data during rebuild after drive has failed, screwed. there's still chance of happening smaller arrays, well, it's not safe of option. raid6 takes 2 drives worth parity, pushes problem out further.

*edit* oh ya, if esata, if it's intel disk controller, need make sure ahci enabled in bios if want hot plugging work. i'm not sure of status of hot plug on other controllers right now.
