Thread: Issue with shared folder...

what i'm trying accomplish give windows machines access fourth partition on ubuntu box.

first created directory /home/kurt/desktop/mycomputer/sda4 regular user.

second "sudo apt-get install samba".

edited /etc/fstab , entered line reading...

"/dev/sda4 /home/kurt/desktop/mycomputer/sda4 vfat user,auto,fmask=0111,dmask=0000 0 0"

doing root.

right click sda4 folder set sharing, requests edit
file /etc/samba/smb.conf. first of all, forgot mention setting "workgroup=mshome". also, add "usershare owner = false"

problem comes when try go in windows xp. gets folder okay asks user name , password. enter names ubuntu box rejects it. tried "sudo smbpasswd -a username" did not solve problem.

thoughts???
