Protection from cheap power supplies.

many of cheap power supplies rely on capacitor limit current mains voltage, yesterday on died after phone charger failing , sending 120/240vac phone...

what's easiest/best way of stopping this? want sit circuit between cheap power supply (5v out) , phone/ device, if goes on 5v kill it.

but dose of 120/240v kill protection circuit.

tvs diodes?
mov?

i'm not sure... if it's possible without kind of isolation? (transformer) if defeats purpose of cheap power supplies!

use better power supplies. 5v switching supplies can had <$5

a input/output box fuse, resettable or otherwise, blows overcurrent it.
